  • Take a Millionaire to Lunch

People ask me all the time: is the story about "taking a millionaire to lunch" true?

    Absolutely.

Over the last year, there's been plenty of talk about the "Law of Attraction" and the idea Earl Nightengale shared long ago on the (vinyl) record "The Strangest Secret."

There are two huge insights on the album.

    1) Nightengale's definition of success
    2) The Law of Attraction

I'm not a big "Secret" guy. Yes, I did see the movie, and I watched it a couple of times. I thought it was a very well done dramatization of a powerful principle, and BRILLIANTLY marketed.

But I'm not "nutso" about it. I study it, and apply it. But to me, as Earl Nightengale shared on his record, (and repeated by the likes of Brian Tracy): the principle is stated: "You become what you think about."

One powerful argument against the "law of attraction" I heard is: "If you become what you think about, I would have become a woman by the time I was 14 years old..."

I prefer to think of attraction as "affinity" > Like attracts like.

Have you ever noticed in a bowl of Cheerios, a Cheerio can't float by itself? Cheerios either float together, or against the side of the bowl. There is some science to it, but the bottom line is that "birds of a feather, flock together."

So if you hang out with go-nowhere losers, that's the mentality you'll adopt.

Next post I'll talk about Nightengale's definition of success.

In the meantime: Take a millionaire to lunch.
